Diamonds are evaluated using four main criteria often referred to as the “4Cs”: Carat, Color, Clarity and Cut.
A Carat is a unit of weight that measures the size of a diamond. A larger carat diamond is generally more valuable, although other factors can also influence its value.
Color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (yellow or light brown hue), with colorless diamonds being the most prized.
Clarity measures the presence of internal or external defects, called inclusions or imperfections, and is graded from Flawless (without defects) to Included (visible inclusions).
Finally, the Cut does not only refer to the shape of the diamond but to the quality of the proportions, symmetry and polishing, which impact the brilliance and sparkle of the diamond.
Together, these characteristics determine the beauty and value of a diamond.
